India's first woman Magistrate and Kerala's first female IAS officer - Omana Kunjamma


Omana Kunjamma was India's first woman Magistrate and Kerala's first female IAS officer. Kunjamma was born in the village of Thikkurissy, Nagercoil (then a part of Travancore, now in Nanchilnadu, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu), in an aristocratic family, to Mangat C. Govinda Pillai and N. Lekshmi Amma. She is the elder sister of Malayalam actor Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair.

  • Ms. Justice M. Fathima Beevi, Born on 30.4.1927 in Pathanamthitta (Kerala); Father: Mr. Meera Sahib; Family: Single, living with Mother Khadeeja Bibi. Schooling from Catholicate High School, Pathanamthitta, B.Sc. (University College, Trivandrum), B.L. (Law College, Trivandrum); Enrolled as Advocate on 14.11.1950, Appointed as Munsiff in the Kerala Sub-ordinate Judicial Services in May, 1958, Promoted as the Sub-ordinate Judge in 1968, Promoted as the Chief Judicial Magistrate in 1972, Promoted District & Sessions Judge in 1974, Appointed as the Judicial Member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in January, 1980, Elevated to the High Court as a Judge on 4.8.1983, Became permanent Judge of the High Court on 14.3.1984.Retired as the Judge of the High Court on 29.4.1989. 

  • Elevated to the Supreme Court as a Judge on 6.10.1989. 

  • Retired on 29.4.1992.

AGRA - About Agra




Agra is famous city having one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal. The city has the architectural splendour of the mausoleums, the fort and the palaces of the legendary Mughal Empire. 

It was the capital in the 16th and early 17th centuries.  It is a pleasant town known for its superb inlay work on marble and soapstone. It is also famous for its carpets, gold thread embroidery and leather shoes.

Taj Mahal - The Taj Mahal is the most beautiful monument built entirely of white marble and has stunning architectural beauty which is beyond any description. It is believed to be built by a Muslim, Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. There is also a dispute over the building as Tejo Mahalaya, a Shiva temple. 





Agra Fort – The fort is built by the great Emperor Akbar in 1565 A.D. It is a masterpiece of design and construction. In the fort, there are buildings of Moti Masjid, Diwane-I-Aam, Diwani-I-Khas and musanman Burj, Khaas Mahal and Sheesh Mahal.
Itmad - Ud Daula - The Itmad -Ud -Daula built by the Empress Noor Jehan as a memorial to her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg. It is ornamented with pietra dura inlay and lattice work marble screens.
 
Chini Ka Roza
- The tomb of Afzal Khan, the Persian poet and minister at Shah Jehan's court has brightly coloured glazed tiles.


Sikandara - It is the last resting place of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. 

Fatehpur Sikri - It has gateways and light- hearted palaces built in red sandstone. Some of them are the Diwan-e-Khas, the panch mahal, the marble tomb of Salim Chisti, and the Buland Darwaza.

Kerala Assembly speaker G Karthikeyan passes away March 7, 2015 




Senior Congress leader and Kerala Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan passed away in Bangalore, Karnataka. He was 66. Karthikeyan died while he was undergoing treatment in Bangalore after he was diagnosed with liver cancer. 




About G Karthikeyan 

Karthikeyan was a prominent Congress leader in Kerala. 
He had started his political career through Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student outfit of Congress. Later he was appointed state president of KSU and Youth Congress. He was also vice-president of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. 

Karthikeyan was elected to Kerala state assembly for 6 times i.e. in 1982 (from Trivandrum North constituency) 1991, 1996 2001, 2006 (from Aryanadand constituency) and 2011 (Aruvikkara constituency). In 1995, he had served as Power Minister of state in the A K Antony led Congress government. In 2001, he also had served as Minister for Food and Civil Supplies in the Congress government. 

Karthikeyan was elected as the Speaker of Kerala state Legislative in 2011, after Congress returned to power. He was born on 20 January 1949 in Varkala, a coastal town in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.
