Arjun Award Announced for Pugilist Manoj Kumar
The Union Sports Ministry confirmed this year’s Arjun Award to the Delhi Commonwealth gold medalist boxer Manoj Kumar on September 17, 2014. Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will decorate Manoj with the coveted sports honour at a later date. After the decision of the Sports Ministry, the number of this year’s Arjun Awardees will go up to 16.
Miss New York Kira Kazantsev Named Miss American 2015

New York continued its hold over the coveted Miss America crown for a third consecutive year as Miss New York Kira Kazantsev won the Miss America pageant on September 14, 2014 at a City’s Boardwalk Hall for the year 2015. Out-going Miss America Nina Davuluri, another beauty from New York honoured Miss Kira Kazantsev with Miss America 2015 crown, Miss Virginia Courtney Paige Garrett was adjudged the first runner-up in the pageant.
South African Organisation ‘Accord’ Gets Mahatma Gandhi International Award
The African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes (Accord) has been honoured with the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Peace and Reconciliation for its efforts in promoting peace and harmony. Garca Machel, Chairperson of the Accord’s Board of Trustees and former First Lady of South Africa when her (late) husband Nelson Mandela was the President of the country, received the award from Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi on behalf of the Accord at the Annual Gandhi Awards ceremony in Durban, South Africa on September 3, 2014.

Veteran journalist and Editorial Chairman of Outlook group, Vinod Mehta has been selected for the coveted G.K.Reddy Memorial Award, 2014 for the exceptional contribution to the field of journalism. The award was founded by T. Subbarami Reddy, the Member of Parliament and Chairman of the TSR Foundation, The G.K Reddy Memorial Award is given for outstanding contribution to journalism and comprises a cash award of Rs. 5 lakh, a gold medal and a citation.
MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity, 2014
R. Kamal Bawa, President of the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) India, Dr. Alfred Oteng-Yeboah, Chairman of Ghana National Biodiversity Committee and Dr. Bibiana Vila, Principal Researcher of the National Research Council and Director (VICAM) Argentina were declared the winners of the MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity, 2014 on September 8, 2014 in Tokyo and Montreal.
Ramnath Goenka Awards for Excellence in journalism, 2011-12
The Ramnath Goenka Awards for Excellence in Iournalism in 2011 and 2012 were presented to fifty-nine journalists of print as well as electronic media for their excellent work in journalism by the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan at a glittering award distribution ceremony in New Delhi on September 9, 2014.
